Latest News from the Solent Fleet: ISC Tuesday evening series: Mark and Colin in ‘Sea-Jay’ are still just ahead on points of Gil and Mike in ‘Fritillary’ closely followed by Andrew and Andrea in their aptly named ‘Black and Blue’ -full results. New Flying Fifteen hull from Composite Craft in Cowes -Now available for a trial sail at the CCYC Composite Craft of Cowes are building a new Flying Fifteen hull. The new hull shape is based on a Roy Windebank modification and has been designed to improve on the Benedict Design’s behaviour through waves. It has more volume in the afterbody of the hull but it is not quite as extreme as the Ovington MK10. The design will be close to the modified hull shape as sailed by Charles Apthorp. Extensive Carbon fibre reinforcements will be built in for shroud, forestay and keel loadings. The Composite Craft boat will be very stiff but also very light so maximum correctors will be fitted. The hull construction will be an epoxy vinylester hybrid with conventional epoxy deck. The epoxy vinylester hybrid allows for a far superior bond between gel, skin and the high performance core used by Composite Craft. It is anticipated that the price will compete with the other Flying Fifteen hull builders and the prototype boat will be completed just after Christmas. Anyone interested should give Composite Craft a ring; even if it is just to talk about Flying Fifteens as any experienced input would be greatly appreciated.
